Coyote Frontier So Far...
Coyote Frontier: A Novel of Interstellar Colonization
The Western Hemisphere Union occupation of Coyote lasted three Coyote years.
They had arrived aboard five starships, the first of which, The WHSS Glorious Destiny, arrived in Coyote orbit, in C.Y 03, bringing with it Matriarch luisa Hernandez. She has been sent by her government to establish control over the existing colonists.
Captain Lee met the Matriarch aboard their ship, and when it became apparent that this ship alone was carrying 1000 colonists, Lee and his people decided to flee the settlement of Liberty, in order to preserve their independence, and avoid being dominated by the WHU.
The WHU took over the deserted Liberty, and an adjacent small town of Shuttlefield was founded, although it was little more than a slum town, with the Union refusing to provide adequate shelter for all of the colonists.
The Alabama colonists however were not prepared to allow the Union to exploit their home. A resistance movement raged guerrilla warfare against the new arrivals, sabotaging their shuttles, and commandeering weaponry and military vehicles. When the fifth ship arrived, with a primarily military agenda, the two groups were at war. The Union invaded settlements, and many lives were lost, first at The Thompson Ferry Massacre, and then at The Battle of Defiance.
However, the Union continued to exhibit their lack of compassion for the new world, and their unwillingness to attempt to preserve and understand it. As the original colonists prepared their last organised attempt at regaining their independence, the natural forces of the moon itself were also preparing to strike back.
The Union’s military forces were crippled by the volcanic eruption of Mt. Bonestall, and were in no position to act when Robert Lee de-orbited the Alabama, having it plummet down on the Union’s military HQ of Fort Lopez.
The Union were defeated and forced to flee Coyote. Liberty had been liberated…
