Coyote Rising Characters...
Matriarch Luisa Hernandez
Matriarch Luisa Hernandez came to Coyote on the second ship to travel to Coyote, the first in a fleet of five, sent from Earth in 2256 by The Western Hemisphere Union. Her ship, The WHSS Glorious Destiny, made contact with the original colonists from Coyote orbit, when it arrived in 2304. Threatened by the arrival of 1000 new colonists to the already exhausted settlement, the Alabama crew fled Liberty, and Luisa Hernandez and her own crew found the town deserted when they finally made the journey down to the surface.
Her first mission was to take control of Liberty, and was therefore fulfilled. However her second priority was to maintain the survival of the colony, and its 1000 new colonists. The Union Guard soldiers aboard the ship were needed to keep order in line, and to assert Hernandez’s position as Colonial Governor, so the whereabouts of the Alabama settlers could wait.
However, as the remaining ships in The Destiny Fleet started to arrive on Coyote, each bringing 1000 more colonists, The Matriarch knew the settlement’s resources would be exhausted even further. The wood and timber was almost entirely used up. She was seldom seen in public, and people began to question her ability to look after the colony. The WHU’s political doctrine of ‘social collectivism’ ensured everyone was equal… however it was a common realisation that some are more equal than others, as Hernandez lived in comfort in her own log cabin, as thousands struggled in the slums of Shuttlefield. The colony moral was low…
Hernandez could not risk an uprising within her own camp. She knew she had to look east, to the continent of land known as Midland, where the Alabama crew were thought to have fled. Midland was home of lush forests, and orbital scans had found evidence of metals and ores. Midland offered all the resources she needed, but Coyote’s long and wide rivers were not easily manoeuvrable.
However, the original colonists had fled one repressive government to find peace and tranquillity on Coyote, and were not prepared to surrender it to another one…
As Hernandez planned a construction project that would make venturing into Midland a possibility, she entered into a long and frustrating fight for Coyote… and would learn just how far the resistance movement of ‘Regil Kent’ was willing to go…
