Carlos had come to think of his summer trip to Great Dakota as a vacation. But as the recently elected first President of the Coyote Federation, his trips were usually diplomatic in nature…
He had been brought to Clarksburg by his sister Marie, who along with her former husband Lars Thompson had discovered the rich forests of New Dakota, during their period of exile from Liberty. Thankfully, she had straightened herself out, and was no longer the fragile, angry individual the Revolution against the WHU had turned her into.
Once the rest of the Thompson family had joined her and Lars, they founded The Thompson Wood Company, and soon the thriving settlement had become Coyote’s third largest colony.
Carlos stood proud, as he admired the large wind turbines that had recently been erected, giving Clarksburg renewable energy that could one day even provide electricity to other settlements…
But Carlos had no time to savour that moment. Receiving an urgent call from his wife, he was urged to look up…
A small spec of light, with an illuminous trail… the undeniable sight of an approaching starship…
